Specialties: Weight loss, Mobility and flexibility, Nutrition, Functional training

Experience: I offer more than six years of combined experience in group fitness classes, gymnastics coaching and personal training.

Why Personal Training: I love teaching, and I love helping people to become their best. There are few things that have the transformative power that fitness and taking care of your body do. I wanted to set out on a career in which I could do what I loved and, best of all, could share in my clients’ experiences of overcoming what sometimes feels impossible.

Exercise is the remedy for more than just having the appearance that we want. I help people to find the ways that exercise and nutrition can improve their quality of life, their energy and their state of mind. I work with my clients to discover the method that fits the individual!

Why Body Mechanix/Project Pedal: In the beginning, I was drawn to Body Mechanix because of its reputation for skilled, effective personal trainers. The care and joy that the trainers and staff at Body Mechanix displayed blew me away. Being new in my career in fitness training, I knew that this was a place where I could learn from the best. Now, some years later, I still feel inspired daily by my colleagues!

    Role: Personal Trainer

Education: Bachelor of Arts in psychology

    Certifications:
    Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
    AED/CPR

Specialties: Strength, Conditioning, Muscle gain and toning, Functional training, Cardiovascular endurance, Core strength, Agility

Experience: I was a member of the women’s track and field team for eight seasons at New Mexico State University. Exposure to several coaching styles and techniques over a lifetime as an all-around athlete has given me a greater understanding of the importance of individualizing training to reflect clients’ personal goals and to prioritize their health.

I have applied this understanding to empower personal training clients to achieve their goals as well as while coaching youth basketball, track and field and volleyball. I maintain a coach mentality because I believe in motivating clients to achieve their personal bests while pushing past their comfort zones.

Why Personal Training: I am a personal trainer because I believe in the power of movement as therapy. I use sports and working out as a form of moving meditation. I encourage clients to get out and move and to take advantage of the many ways that the world provides to keep active – from the gym to playgrounds, to stadiums, to park benches.

Maintaining an active lifestyle has shaped my life in many constructive ways, and I have witnessed others transforming their lives too after implementing physical activity and healthier habits. The same habits that you develop to push past your limitations in the gym or weight room carry over into your personal life and create a greater ability to overcome and a new sense of resilience. Seeing clients whom I have trained and athletes whom I have coached demonstrate this is beyond gratifying.

Why Body Mechanix: I train at Body Mechanix because I love the community of people. From the first afternoon that I set foot in Body Mechanix, I observed everyone greeting one another and saw an environment in which people came to work and to be put to work.

This gym offers equipment that ensures a dynamic workout each session and the space to utilize all its fun tools. As longtime members and/or clients affirm that Body Mechanix offers some of the best trainers and facilities, I am proud to be part of a team that is so highly regarded by its community.

    Role: Boxing Coach

    Certifications: First Aid / CPR

    Specialties: Boxing

Experience: Olympic style boxing 2001-2007; Boxing coach 2012-2018

Why Personal Training: I am a personal trainer because I love the art of boxing and love teaching the art to others. I like the release that hitting the bag and boxing in general give you. I got into boxing to increase my fitness. I was in top physical shape but when I went to box against an opponent, I couldn't touch him and didn't feel in shape. This experience sparked something in me. The more I went, the more I liked it and wanted to compete in it. I want everyone I teach to get a really solid workout while having fun. Working out without working out.

Why Body Mechanix: I train at Body Mechanix because I love the gym and the people here. The gym's philosophies and values resonate with me. I'm always excited to see who comes in next.

Experience: My passion for fitness is interconnected with all parts of my life, from the attitude I bring into my workplace, to how I view health as a clinician, to how I engage with my clients, patients, colleagues, family and community, it is always present. As a practice, I try to model fitness by example and hold an open invitation to all those who express an interest in joining me. Over the past several years, this practice has led to me informally training sedentary colleagues into competitive runners and friends with limited agility in the water into strong swimmers. Their achievements birthed a new passion for them and I witnessed as it transformed their energy levels, their happiness, their physique and the priorities in their lives.

Why Personal Training: I am a personal trainer because movement is at the center of our quality of life. Through movement, we engage our minds and our bodies in unison and explore the limitless possibilities of what we can do. It is the ultimate expression of love to ourselves, and, like all forms of love, it requires that we work at it.

Several years ago, I started training young high school students to run the Oakland Marathon Relay. We had two teams and each person ran a 6.5 -7 mile stretch, which was a lot considering that some had never ran before. Training with them was not only a bonding experience for us, but, most importantly, it bonded them more closely to themselves. In training them, I learned that 1) The best gift that I can give to people is not to take care of them, but to arm them with the tools to take care of themselves and 2) Young people, and all people, intuitively care about their health and will act upon it if provided proper pathways to do so.

I believe that it is through the discovery of what we can do that we begin to create our own self-determination. Whether as a healthcare provider or personal trainer, my goal is to empower people with the tools to take their health, wellness and athleticism into their own hands, guiding them, while promoting that they own their own power to become their best self!

Why Body Mechanix: I train at Body Mechanix because Body Mechanix has pushed me, loved me, grown me, and become a home for me. I am a stronger athlete than I was when I first walked in. Before I came to Body Mechanix I used half-marathons, olympic triathlons and other competitive racing events as goal markers for my own speed and agility. At Body Mechanix, I began to set different goals for myself that reflected not just my speed, but my overall performance, strength and areas of weakness. My workouts became more well rounded. Above all, I found a family and community at Body Mechanix and it is a highlight of my day to train with them.

Experience: I began working out at 23. I became a certified personal trainer at 35. I have trained myself consistently for over 20 years and client based training for over 5 year.

Why Personal Training: I am a personal trainer because at 23 year old I began working out for self improvement. A trainer took a special interest in me and taught me the secrets to longevity in human performance. He saw potential in me that I did not recognize in myself and after 5 years of training I went from a skinny 165 lbs to 198 lbs of lean muscle. I was able to squat / deadlift 500 lbs and bench over 300 lbs-- a level of human performance I never thought possible all due to the training I received. Currently, at 50 years of age, I continue to lift intensely as I did as a young adult. I learned if done correctly fitness is the true fountain of youth. As a result, I became a personal trainer to help people dedicate themselves to reaching their maximum human potential and performance while doing so safely and with longevity in mind.

Why Body Mechanix: Body Mechanix provides a environment that allows creativity in the approach to fitness. Body Mechanix allows me to train clients independently in a clean, professional and safe environment with a focus on excellence through accountability and a supportive staff structure.

Specialties: Strength Training, Circuit Training, Fat Loss

Experience: Ran spartan race and 5k’s, former rugby athlete, personal trainer for 2 years.

Why Personal Training: I chose to become a personal trainer because I love to help people overcome their obstacles. Seeing the change in someone from not knowing how to train, to becoming an experienced weight lifter is one of the most rewarding feelings there is. Helping someone reach their fitness goals while helping them understand that they are capable of anything as long as they have a plan and support is my favorite aspect of training that I live and breath for.

Why Body Mechanix: I joined Body Mechanix because of its unique character and knowledgeable staff. Having the opportunity to work with experienced, dedicated, and friendly coworkers is the best environment to work in. Being a part of this family-like staff makes me that much more dedicated to continuously learn and expand my horizon when it comes to fitness. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be than here.
